What is LSAC?
The gateway to law school in Canada and the United States
Law School Admission Council
LSAC is a non-profit organization that administers the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) — the standardized test accepted by virtually all ABA-accredited law schools and most Canadian law schools for admission.
Widely Accepted in Canada
Accepted by University of Alberta, U of Calgary, UBC, Osgoode Hall, and many more. A strong LSAT score is one of the most important factors in law school admissions.
Multiple Test Dates
Offered multiple times per year — typically January, March, April, June, August, September, October, and November. Register early as seats fill quickly.
Score Valid 5 Years
LSAT scores are valid for five years. You may write up to three times in a single testing year and five times within five years. Most schools consider your highest score.
LSAT Test Format
Four sections completed in approximately 3.5 hours (plus breaks)
Analytical Reasoning
35 minutes
Tests your ability to understand a structure of relationships and draw logical conclusions. Often called "Logic Games" — organize groups, arrange sequences, and match attributes.
Logical Reasoning
35 minutes × 2 sections
Evaluates your ability to analyze, critically evaluate, and complete arguments in short passages. Accounts for roughly half of your total LSAT score.
Reading Comprehension
35 minutes
Measures your ability to read lengthy and complex texts similar to those in law school — including a comparative reading section with two related passages.
Writing Sample
35 minutes (unscored)
An unscored writing prompt sent to every law school you apply to. Demonstrates your ability to argue a position clearly and persuasively under timed conditions.
Scoring: The LSAT is scored on a scale of 120–180. The average is around 150. Most top Canadian law schools look for scores of 160+.
