IELTS Test Format
Four components completed in approximately 2 hours 45 minutes
Listening
30 minutes + 10 min transfer
40 Questions - 4 Sections:
- Section 1: Conversation in an everyday social context
- Section 2: Monologue in an everyday social context
- Section 3: Conversation in an educational/training context
- Section 4: Monologue on an academic subject
Reading
60 minutes
40 Questions - 3 Passages:
Academic: Three long texts from books, journals, magazines
General Training: Extracts from books, magazines, newspapers, notices, advertisements, company handbooks
Writing
60 minutes
2 Tasks:
- Task 1 (150 words): Academic - describe visual information; General - write a letter
- Task 2 (250 words): Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem
Speaking
11-14 minutes
3 Parts:
- Part 1: Introduction and interview (4-5 minutes)
- Part 2: Long turn - speak about a topic for 1-2 minutes
- Part 3: Discussion related to Part 2 topic (4-5 minutes)
